Vela is committed to transparency about government and law enforcement requests for user data. This report covers all requests received since launch.

Why this matters: Vela serves people living with health conditions. We recognize that account existence on our platform may itself be considered sensitive information. We take an aggressive stance in protecting our users from overreach.

Our commitments

When we receive a law enforcement request, we will:

1. Require valid legal process (subpoena, court order, or warrant)
2. Notify affected users unless legally prohibited
3. Challenge overly broad or legally deficient requests
4. Limit disclosure to the narrowest scope required
5. Advocate to protect the sensitive nature of our users' data

Health conditions	No. Encrypted with user's personal key. We do not possess the decryption key.
Chat messages	Yes (text content is not end-to-end encrypted)
Photos	Yes (stored in private buckets, accessible via service role)
Face verification photos	No. Deleted immediately after verification.
IP addresses	No. We do not log IP addresses.
